"Une vue splendide..." - a wonderful view - is how the French poet Victor Hugo described Germany's most beautiful river bend, the Saar Loop, in 1863.

Here the river carves a near-complete loop through the forested hills near Mettlach. The classic view is from the Cloef viewpoint high above Orscholz, while the treetop walk lets you look down on the bend from a 42-meter tower. Boat trips, hiking trails and Montclair Castle round out the area's most famous natural landmark.
