The Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival is the most important festival for young German-language cinema. Each January, Saarbrücken becomes the launchpad for the next generation of directors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Across seven days the festival screens feature films, documentaries and shorts, hosts Q&As with the filmmakers, and closes with a glamorous awards ceremony. Many titles that later succeed nationally have their premiere here.
