Völklinger Hütte Ironworks

A disused ironworks and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walkable blast furnaces, the sinter plant and changing exhibitions.

The Völklinger Hütte is the only surviving ironworks from the heyday of pig-iron production and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.

Visitors can climb the blast furnaces, walk through the vast sinter plant and the blowing hall, and explore paths where nature has reclaimed the industrial ruins. Today it doubles as a striking venue for major art exhibitions, festivals and science shows - industrial heritage on a monumental scale.
